Novel Nanomaterials for Water Purification

Tap water contains disinfection byproducts that exceed health guidelines established by federal and state health authority. My research focuses on developing enhanced filtration systems for water purification by integrating novel nanomaterials. My work is synthesis, characterization and application of these purification systems. Aqueous activators are regenerated by electron transfer. Atom transfer radical polymerization is the green, facile technique used to functionalize SWCNT with poly(vinylbenzyl trimethylammonium chloride). This nanoresin has been used as a technology for water purification from low molecular weight, carcinogenic disinfection byproducts.
