Synthesis of Fluorescent Probes for Bacterial Species Product Differentiation of a Common Isoprene Anchor during Polysaccharide Biosynthesis

Bacterial surface polysaccharides are broadly diverse among species and often play an important role in both commensalism or illness. While notoriously difficult to investigate, we have developed a synthetic library of fluorescently modified isoprenes which are utilized as a common anchor during early polysaccharide biosynthesis. We hope to probe the production of elongated isoprenes in vitro and in cellulo for the eventual investigation of live cell polysaccharide production.
