Ceramic Processing of Silicon Carbide

We seek to develop SiC material that can be sintered within a temperature range viable for mass production and 3D printing. We also aim to maintain similar mechanical properties as pure SiC. A cristobalite phase is introduced that acts as a binder for SiC micro and nano powder. Strong base solution is used form a sol-gel layer between particles. The material’s mechanical properties are controlled by varying parameters in the heat treatment process and the solution. XRD, FTIR, and SEM analyses have been performed to explore the materials crystal phases, concentration of silica, and porosity of the SiC material.
