SARMs AND BEYOND: EMERGING PHARMACOTHERAPIES TARGETING SKELETAL MUSCLE DISORDERS

Skeletal muscle is emerging as a key target tissue for drug discovery. Vast opportunities exist for therapeutic interventions targeting muscle wasting, metabolic disorders, contractility, and motor neuron disorders. Selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs) have arisen as one of the first viable therapies for muscle wasting disorders. Other therapies on the horizon are focused on leveraging negative regulators of muscle mass in the TGF beta signaling pathway.
This seminar will focus the development of SARMs at GSK and how SARMs fit into the context of other pharmacotherapies being developed for skeletal muscle disorders.
